Tell us in short about the real person behind the nickname.

Lanthan: It´s not really exciting to be honest. I´m 31 years old and working as an IT-Manager but trying to change that in the near future. I don´t have a family so nothing is distracting me when it comes down to gaming. I´m the try and error guy... tired a lot of things in my life but nothing worked out really well

Question: Explain your online handle, what does it mean? why did you choose it? do you use any other alias? How long have you had it?
Lanthan: Actually it´s simple but still makes me laugh to hear native English speakers trying to pronounce it. They can´t decide how they wanna pronounce the TH. But the name itself goes back to the times when I was studying chemistry back in the year 2000. I joined the darkjedi organisation which is a multigaming roof organistation. Anyway I needed a name and I was dealing with Lanthan in the laboratory. And since the element is as boring as I am it was pretty obvious to use it as my alias. I think I never used another alias than that. As you all know the more the community knows you the harder it is to change the name. Not that I would have a better idea right now.

Question: How long have you been in AGW and how did you find us?
Lanthan: I joined AGW right around the German prerelease of the game. Which must be around 1 1/2 years now. I was playing in FFTF before and enjoyed the people there a lot and it was a lot of fun playing in the Project Reality campaigns we had there. I was aware that there is the AGW sister organistation focusing on ArmA but I didn´t enjoy ArmA I that much so I just followed what was going on there. But once ArmA2 got released I was aboard and looking forward to the very first campaign. Especially because the FFTF tournament slowly died around that time as well.

Question: How long have you been involved with gaming in general?
Lanthan: Puh... I´d say almost forever. I think it was somewhen in primary school when two of my friends got Schneider CPCs. We got hooked up by this and played a lot of Harrier Command
Slowly other friends got 386 PCs and the games got better and better. My first own PC was a 486 DX 40 and I had to safe the cash for quite a while. I also had a gameboy and the things you have as a kid.

Question: Which current AGW member have you known the longest?
Lanthan: Thinking about it it must be Ed and Blisstick... basically the guys who are left over from FFTF. Firefox was there too but didn´t play in the campaigns I´ve played. Not to forget Adsy. I was HCO under his command in an FFTF campaign and then here in campaign one as well. After I found myself beeing HCO in C1 people like Purple and Ulster showed up.

Question: Tell us a little about your gaming rig?
Lanthan: I bought it when Arma 2 was released. I had to be able to play this game so I´ve got myself:
I7 920
8GB Ram
and a GTX 280. Still works fine. The only thing that sucks a bit is vista.

Question: What are games you play currently? List your top 5 favorite games with a short explanation of why they are your favorites.
Lanthan: I can´t give you 5 I only play 3 games.
So here are my top 3:
1st: ArmA2 CO... obviously for the thrill you can get there. It is just a great game with endless opportunities and the tournament makes it even better.
2nd: Napoleon: Total War. I always liked Rome: Total War and I bought the game of the year edition of Empire and Napoleon last monday. The battlefields are simply amazing.
3rd: R.U.S.E. Yes another strat game. I think it is well done and something different though not a lot of missions.

Question: What other hobbies do you partake in?
Lanthan: Lately not that much. But I like to read, cook, photography, hiking, airsoft operations and playing hockey though this is incredibly exhausting.

Question: Describe a perfect game night/day?
Lanthan: A good battle on sunday. Besides that hanging around on our TS server and having a nice pubbing session with some guys and a couple of beers.

Question: Do you see yourself gaming when you are 75 years old?
Lanthan: If I´m still able to see and move my fingers definitly yes.

Question: Do you have a favorite AGW moment? Tell us about it.
Lanthan: I think battle 1 & 2 this campaign. I was so super nervous because I was afraid that we will get our asses kicked big time and that would have been a very bad thing for the motivation of the army. Not speaking about a loss I was very worried we might get sweeped. So with that nervousness seeing things work out pretty well by having a real competition going on was a real high. I remember others had the same feeling which made it even better.

Question: Anything else you would like to add?
Lanthan: I hope we can keep the excitement of this campaign going on for a little longer. Would be great if we can keep it close until the end and then hopefully we will come up with an exciting C5.
Both teams and Generals make a great job this campaign!

Thank you very much for your time Lanthan, on behalf of the media team.

C04B05 moments - Tell us in short about the real person behind the nickname.
piTu: my name is Marc, 38 years old and living in Germany in a small village near Hamburg. I´m an electrical engineering technician in a chemical plant. I´m taking part in a motorcycle club and I´m a big fan from the HSV soccer team. Like to go fishing and cooking and i´m a member of the firefighter team in our village. And the PC, especially ArmA takes the other time of my life.

Question: Explain your online handle, what does it mean? why did you choose it? do you use any other alias? How long have you had it?
piTu: The name piTu is taken from a sugarcane-schnapps you need fort he Brazil cocktail caipirinha. It was my favorite drink in hot summer many years ago. I use this name since OFP-times. only in perfect world i use an other name: erie djavar. otherwise in all games i´m piTu.

Question: How long have you been in AGW and how did you find us?
piTu: I´ve played public with kju many times and he told me to try the AGW-tournament. After playing aas at the basecamp server nearly every day there was more and more contact to cat toaster. He also suggested to play with him in AGW. so I started with the scrims for C3.

Question: How long have you been involved with gaming in general?
piTu: I´ve had my first experiences with the game pong late in the 70´s . then my „career“ goes on with the Atari VCS and the awesome C64. Started PC-gaming in 1992. Online gaming since 2001 starting with OFP. i´ve played in several clans and leagues (ESL, AL, ECL, 511er) and tried out the real-war-league. Now i give AGW a hard time

Question: Which current AGW member have you known the longest?
piTu: With m@ddog, Charlie and scotch i´ve played in the OFP clan mdk. It´s very funny with this guys so we stick together till now. We did every clan switch together. If u want one of us u have to take all of us .

Question: Tell us a little about your gaming rig?
piTu: I´m using a amd x6 1090 @3,6ghz, ati 5850, 4gb ram, Seagate Barracuda 1TB, Logitech G500 mouse, Plantronics Gamecom 777 headset, 22” TFT and a 5€ 10 years old Cherry keyboard

Question: What are games you play currently? List your top 5 favorite games with a short explanation of why they are your favorites.
piTu: 1-5 OFP
Currently i´m playing ArmA2 most the time. It´s the best non-fast-food-shooter in my opinion. It depends not only on your reaction to be a good player. You have also to think about what you are doing next. And you have to act as a team to be successful.
For a change I play the mmorpg perfect world. This game is the easy going part in my game collection. You can meet nice guys and have fun for some hours without stress.
Another game for funny evenings is Trackmania. Some evenings m@ddog and me are driving around at the tmn servers. But this game has a handicap. If you got 4 or 5 beers or a bottle vino you can´t handle the car anymore .
Sorry, not 5 games. I think it´s better to play a game very intensive to be good than to play many games with no success

Question: What other hobbies do you partake in?
piTu: As i´ve said above I´m a big HSV fan. I visit their matches in the stadium or watch them at the TV. With my teammate scotch I also drive to the away-matches in whole germany. Another hobby is fishing. Sometimes going to Denmark with my friends for a fishing week. And hanging around with my mates from the motorcycle club. Having party with drinks and girls is also available with me

Question: Describe a perfect game night/day?
piTu: There are 2 types of perfect game nights:
1. Meeting my teammates in mumble taking part at a public server have some beers and talk funny b*llsh*t with them.
2. Prepare a whole week for a battle. Try out everything at an arma map. Entering the chopper in the right time/way, take the fastest way to a spot, check every possible route, know every stone/house/bush and work out several tactics. If that works at the battleday in a league or a tournament with the whole team then it´s a perfect game night.

Question: Do you see yourself gaming when you are 75 years old?
piTu: Sure. I can see no matter to stop playing. And I hope gaming in 40 years will also be possible with sitting in a chair. The trend is to move your whole body like you do at the Wii. In 40 years this could be the primary way to play games. With 75+ it will not be so easy to move your body quick enough

Question: Do you have a favorite AGW moment? Tell us about it.
piTu: Yes, in a battle in C3 teasy and me wanted to support our team to take the blue bravo spot. But I was too dumb to drive the right way. I took our jeep to alpha instead of bravo. At that moment our team takes the flag at bravo. Teasy and me were standing in alpha without an enemy and could make the sweep. This sweep was only possible in fact of not knowing how to drive to the right position. Causes big laughter in our TS

Question: Anything else you would like to add?
piTu: I would like to thank the admins for the AGW-tournament. Good work.

Thank So much coordinated firepower around hot zones. Assets were used to their full potential, which should be a compliment to the map maker as well as both teams. A big contribution to the win of round one was Ash who killed around 150 (one-hundred-and-fifty) players with artillery strikes setting a tournament record.

Round two ended in a draw and was an excellent fight between both sides. Then the TLA decided to give the 101st a run for their money. Ash wasn't as effective with his artillery strikes as he had been previously and the TLA attacked hard and secured a round win.

Round four ended with a very well and timely coordinated attack from the 101st on the TLA's bases, which secured final victory for the 101st. Congratulations to the 101st for a hard-fought and deserved win. All in all this promises to be one hell of a campaign! As closing words I would like to thank everyone who participated in one form or another in this battle. It was one of the finest battles AGW has seen in its short history. Be proud of yourself!

Below some video footage of battle action.

Interview with the tournament president Blisstick

Here's an interview we did with our TP (tournament admin, not toilet paper) Blisstick.

Question: So who's this Blisstick guy? Tell us in short about the real person behind the nickname.
Blisstick: I'm a 27 year old (28 in 1 week) guy from just outside Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. My girlfriend Skye and I have a cat named Manao... Skye's from Thailand and Manao is Thai for "lime". Having recently graduated university with a BComm degree, I've just taken a new job and transitioned from the IT field where I've been for 6.5 years into Inside Sales.

Question:Explain your online handle, what does it mean? why did you choose it? do you use any other alias? How long have you had it?
Blisstick: Blisstick is actually short for "BLIStered STICKers". Around 10 years ago, when I decided I needed a fresh, unique online handle, I created this because I was a new volunteer firefighter and was proud of blistering the stickers on my helmet after being in a hot house fire.

Question: What were you hoping to accomplish with starting up the AGW tournament?
Blisstick: AGW was created by a small group of us who came from a Battlefield 2 tournament called FFTF "Fight for The Future". We loved organized tournament battles, but BF2 was limited to 32v32 games. Tacho was an ArmA1 fan and showed us that game... like ArmA2 it had huge maps with potential for large battles and could be heavily modded, so we decided to form a new tournament based on the Armed Assault series of games - enter AGW "Armed Global Warfare".

Question:: How long did it take to develop?
Blisstick: We originally started with the concept in late 2007/early 2008 and I created the website June 2008. It took a long time to get started because we had such a small group starting out, and it takes a lot of gamers to produce a successful war-game tournament. Campaign 1 officially started a more than a year later in August 2009.

Question: What has been the biggest challenge running the online tourney?
Blisstick: By far the biggest challenge is managing/dealing with all the people and personalities, which are critical to the success of the tournament. Naturally, no two people think alike, and having armies and so many people in different positions of authority who we depend on to perform their duties takes a lot of patience, people skills, and close management in order to push forward for everyone's enjoyment.

Question: How long have you been involved with gaming in general?
Blisstick: Since the days of Wolfenstein... that must be close to 20 years now. Although as a kid I was into Nintendo a bit, PC - and especially multiplayer gaming has always intrigued me. My first PC CD-Rom game was SimCity 2000 and my first PC multiplayer game was Duke Nukem 3D (via dialup modem connection).

Question: Which current AGW member have you known the longest?
Blisstick: Roybean and I were platoon mates in Wiskey Company of the 32RA Coalition Army of 21CW "21st Century Warfare" Battlefield 1942 tournament in Campaign 7. This was my first experience with online tournament gaming and would have been somewhere around 2000 or 2001. Looking back, we've been in 4 or 5 different tournaments together and often worked/played at similar levels; some as plain old grunt NCM's together, some as HCO's and Officers together, and some as Admins together. My only trip to Europe was to visit Roybean a few years back. If you ever have the chance to meet an online gaming friend, do it; it's amazing the friendships people can form online!

Question: Tell us a little about your gaming rigg?
Blisstick: My current rig runs an i7-920 2.67Ghz CPU with 12GB RAM, an ATI 4890 video card, and 4 x 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm harddrives running in RAID 10.

Question: What are games you play currently? List your top 5 favorite games with a short explanation of why they are your favorites.
Blisstick: 1. ArmA2 AAS - Because of its capacity for large-scale first-person shooter battles, modifiability, and naturally because our tournament runs it!
2. Mafia 1 & 2 - Because of the great graphics and mission storyline... thank God it's not multiplayer or no one in my real-life would ever see me!
3. Team Fortress 2 - Because of its exciting, fast-paced action, continuous updates, and comical characters.
4. Tropico 3 - Because of the management of resources and strategy involved... I'm a big fan of tycoon-style games and this is the most recent one I've played.
5. TheHunter.com - Because I enjoy hunting in real-life and it has amazing graphics and equipment which are continually updated... again, I wish it was multiplayer!

Question: What other hobbies do you partake in?
Blisstick: I enjoy hunting and fishing, computer/web programming, driving/traveling and hanging out with my friends and family.

Question: Describe a perfect game night/day?
Blisstick: Some of my friends and I used to get together for LAN games back in the day... probably around 2003/2004. A couple of us were officers in the local volunteer fire department at the time, so we'd invite 6 or 8 guys to the firehall and all bring our PC's and set up in the meeting room, order some pizzas, and game all night long. IT WAS A GREAT TIME!

Question: Do you see yourself gaming when you are 75 years old?
Blisstick: Sure, if I'm still alive lol! Can't wait to see the graphics and interface systems by then... virtual reality anyone?!

Question: What are you hoping to accomplish with the new Campaign 4?
Blisstick: My goal for C4 is to finally achieve the regular 50v50 battles we've been working to have since Day 1. It feels great that the team we have in place on Staff and HCO level are functioning so well and advertising/word of mouth is finally making that possible after 2.5 years!

Question: Do you have a favorite AGW moment? Tell us about it.
Blisstick: Our very first AAS Scrim... I can't remember the name of the map, but it was amazingly fun. AAS helped concentrate the action on our battlefields in a way that wasn't possible with regular ArmA2. I can remember walking with a platoon in line-formation along the edge of a meadow and getting so many kills on our way to the flag. In a sense, "you just had to be there", but I'm sure we have all had experiences like this in AGW battles by now.

Question: Anything else you would like to add?
Blisstick: It has taken a lot of time, work, and money generously donated by our members past and current to get AGW to where it is today - one of the premiere Armed Assault tournament communities on the net. I feel a lot of pride and respect for all who have contributed to the community we've become and hope you all do to. Thank you all very much!

Thank you very much for your time, Blisstick on behalf of the media team.

Campaign 4, Battle 1 Oh yeah, game on!

Battle 1 of the new campaign is scheduled for next sunday. Appears I am too busy for daily updates. Anyway for the two of you who visit this blog, there is a bit of news.

Campaign 4 Scrim 2 will start within 48 hours from now. For instance:

we will be using ArmA2:Operation Arrowhead;

we will be using AAS as our main "mod";

to attract new members to AGW, we're going to play very regularly on the Basecamp server (which is the most active server in the world at the moment).

We like to get more new members! So if you're interested, come and play with us on the BCA server until the signup period starts.

Takistan Map

|AGW|Ed has provided us with a terrain map of the new standalone expansion for ArmA2 called Operation Arrowhead.
